Dos and Don’ts of Quickstep on the dance floor

Quickstep NORTHVILLE is the light-hearted part of international standard ballroom dancing. The syncopations are the most important member of the dance in which movements are powerfully sprinkled and fast flowing. Thanks to the upbeat melodies, Quickstep has become most suited both for formal and casual events. Quickstep was first performed by African and Caribbean dancers and it was developed first in New York in the twenties. But quickstep is about learning some more things other than just dancing steps. So, have a look at the things you should and should not do on the dance floor.

Dos and don’ts on ballroom dancing
1.   What to wear: Since ballroom is a social dance form, it is not good to wear something which is against social way. There are some things to consider on your outfit from the shoes to the shirt. Everything should be worn thoughtfully and comfortably. Though women love high heels on dancing, they shouldn’t be the ones that make you injured.

2.   Dance should be kept light: As the name implies, quickstep is the dance which consists of light and fast moves. And this is important for getting the perfect postures for the dance. So don’t do footwork heavily and stomp around the room like an elephant.

3.   Orientation: First of all, you should first try to know where you should step on the dance floor before knowing the steps. This is also more important when you go out of the dance class and enter into the hall to perform with more couples. Hence good orientation is important when it comes to dance quickstep. If you lost just half sequence, it may be proved dangerous to you because it lets you move faster. There are two rules working on that – first of all, you should move anticlockwise on the floor, not clockwise. Second, the dance floor is categorized into three invisible lanes. The slow or outside lane for the beginners, inside for the intermediates and centre for the masters. As a golden rule of thumb, if you are still learning, don’t enter into the centre.

4.    Go respectfully: Your behavior should be kind for others so that others can give respect to you. You can use hand signals to leave space for other couples. Otherwise, you may get thrown out of the floor by your own mistakes like elbowing, poking, prodding and even brawling.

5.   Enjoy the dance: Straight face is required by some ballroom dance, except quickstep. For instance, you can express your enjoyment in dancing with your expressions, unlike waltz. However, do it in a limit. It is not important to show your nicest teeth all the time.
